While price was a major consideration, functionality and realistic-looking plans were critical. Other criteria that we used included a variety of factors such ease of use, access to tutorials, and the number of photos stored in each software’s library. Since there are free home design software programs you can use, we believe it is always worth it to do a little designing before you begin.

It also has a good photo library and, with 10GB of cloud storage, you can work on projects without running out of space. RoomSketcher allows you to start designing right away, but you’ll have to pay if you want additional features such as 3D floor plans, 360 viewing, or real floor plans. Getting set up is easy, and within minutes you can start designing and creating. It is universal architecture design software for 2D and 3D projects that outputs the overall result of the project, including modeling, rendering, and construction documents.

If you’re just beginning to explore the world of home design, SketchUp is a great way to try it for free. Renderings look professional and, although the quality won’t appear as good as it does with the Pro version, it’s not half bad. Although SketchUp Free only allows limited use of its photo library, you can still do a lot with the program and it’s easy to create your designs. Homestyler is currently free to use, with Pro and Master options costing about $5 and $10 per month. There are quite a few home design apps you can use on your phone, but they often have a "cartoonish" appearance to them when you look at the finished product.

Sue’s innate love for the outdoors became even stronger, when she sailed around the world at 20, with family and friends in a sailboat they purchased and renovated themselves. The original prototype for Homestyler was part of a project called Dragonfly and was developed by Autodesk in 2009. Depending on the renovations you want to do, costs can run anywhere from $25,000 to $45,000 for things like painting, landscaping, and refurbishing cabinets. Costs can go as high as $60,000 for a total kitchen remodel or fully updating a bathroom. When you add in some low- or medium-cost upgrades and install some new plumbing, your renovation costs could expand even further.

However, the use of concrete as the main construction system is considered as the most suitable for this kind of design. This love leads to the fabulous incorporation of one-of-a-kind pieces into her designs. This became an opportunity but also a challenge for the design, because the house can be beautified from two sides and yet at the same time facing the direct sunlight heat from west. With careful considerations and design thinking in the process, simple geometric mass shape was chosen and detailed in such a way with many interesting elements.

Sides of the house that is exposed to direct sunlight, especially from the west side are filled with spaces or architectural details that can help reduce the heat. If you want to know how your home renovation project or remodel is going to look before you complete it, then you may find purchasing a home design software program is well worth the cost. Home design programs show you what your finished project will look like and give you an idea of the cost, which can help keep you from going over budget. The program allows you to choose one of four plan representations; select from elevations, conceptual, detailed, and realistic. Since the software supports other platforms, you can import or export from other libraries on the internet when they are compatible and easily integrate them into your design plans.

Costs range from free all the way up to $795 or more, depending on the features you want and the number of photo uploads you can make. Storage Sheds Los Angeles Metro Area

shed to house

Consider sectioning off a portion of your shed home where creative flow can run thick and plentiful. If you lack a proper foundation, once the shed settles, the sheetrock may crack when you’re finished. In short, many areas of the United States – like Kentucky – allow you to legally convert a shed into a livable home. Although having an attached shed may be the perfect answer to all your problems, there are a few things you may need to consider before you begin building one. As you can probably imagine there are a number of reasons why you may want to attach a shed to your property. With some positives will always come to some negatives, so I will jump into them here so you can make a better decision on the placement of your shed.

This plan will serve as a guide during the installation process and ensure that all electrical components are properly connected. When it comes to lighting, consider a combination of natural and artificial light sources. This will not only provide a bright and airy atmosphere but also help save on energy costs.

Add HVAC

If built right, shed houses are designed to last as long as a regular house. Since Home Depot sheds are not built to the IRC (2018), you will not be able to convert them into a legal shed home. Additionally, if you do decide to finish out the interior, even though it is illegal (we do not advise this!), you put yourself at risk for homelessness. If you don’t make the payments, the distributor can come onto the property and remove your shed. Your shed home is up to code and hooked up to your needed power sources.

Living in a Shed? An In Depth Guide To Turning A Shed Into A Tiny Home

If the shed already exists on your property, you probably already know by now how good it is and if you should consider repairs or replacement. For more detailed information on budgeting and the costs involved in such transformations, consider reading our comprehensive house renovation cost guide. Additionally, shed houses are often located in areas with harsh weather conditions, such as extreme temperatures or strong winds.

Attached sheds can easily have water, electricity, or gas hookups, and you won’t have to worry about having and unsightly or hazardous wires running across your yard. In some counties, an attached shed is the only legal way to have a shed with electricity. Depending on the climate you live in, the temperature of your shed may be important to you, as is the cost of electricity. If you live in a hot or cold climate, it’s possible that these temperatures could easily damage your possessions. As long as it’s done according to the correct laws and regulations of your area with an eye on the details there is no reason why it won’t increase your property’s value.

Legal and Safety Considerations for Shed Conversion

Reach out to your local zoning office to find out if there are any restrictions on turning a shed into a living space. If transporting the shed through multiple cities or states, you'll need permits for each state and may also need local permits for various towns along the route. Many sheds are considered oversized loads, which come with specific permit requirements. Whether you need a permit to move a shed depends on the shed size, move distance, transport route, and local laws and regulations.

Power can be brought over from the main house with buried cables or above-ground conduit. The shed should have its own electric service panel and electric circuits independent of the main house. If so, both the converted shed and the main house must have direct access to it. Some communities are friendly to ADU development, making special efforts to cut the red tape and meet the needs of ADU tiny home builders.

Bring in your appliances, put lighting on the roughed-in boxes, and so on. The next step is to install any required HVAC systems, electrical and water lines, internet connections, and so on. You can also consider installing outlets and lighting to the shed's exterior.

Sheds in use for years likely aren't appropriate, unless they have been kept in perfect condition. So, building a new shed is a more reliable, though expensive, way to create the framework for a tiny house. This means that your shed stays cool on stifling hot summer days and warmer in the dead of winter. Although it’s more expensive, we recommend you choose spray foam insulation.

Therefore, you will have to hold off on your plans to live in a shed home until you are all paid up. One, if you have limited backyard space still want a larger shed house, the Legacy Two-Story sheds are perfect. Remember, before buying a shed you should be aware of the shed permit requirements of your municipality. Sometimes you just need to get out of the house and have a place to escape for yourself. Your man cave doesn’t have to take up one of the rooms in your home. Bring your cave into the garden by converting your existing shed or purchase one to convert.

Choose curtains or blinds that allow plenty of natural light to flow in. Avoid heavy drapes or dark-colored window treatments that can make the space feel smaller. There are several heating solutions that can effectively warm your shed house. Each option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to weigh them carefully before making a decision. Another space-saving tip is to invest in multi-functional furniture. For example, consider a kitchen island with built-in storage or a fold-down table that can be used for food preparation and dining.

When putting outlets, think about the gadgets you'll be plugging in. Furthermore, if any wall runs are longer than 5 feet and do not have an outlet, install one right away. Access and air movement are vital for keeping your floor dry and rot-free. Moisture can accumulate, and pests can eat into the underside of the floor where it meets the ground.

Like most sheds on this list, there aren’t any interior walls or drawings, which means it’ll be up to your creative energies to maximize the living space. For a home that has an entry point offering easy access to the inside, the double-door garden shed plan is perfect. It’s built in the style of a giant lean-to and features a slanted roof to ensure that rain and snow get washed away from your living area. It measures 12′ x 24′ in size but only has a single level, unlike the previous two plans. The 12×22 layout is similar in size to the barn shed listed above and includes a beautiful front porch that’s a great place to hang out on.

Use drawer organizers to keep toiletries and makeup organized and easily accessible. Consider using a shower caddy or hanging storage for bath essentials. Invest in closet organizers and storage systems that utilize every inch of vertical space. Use hanging shoe racks, cascading hangers, and storage bins to keep items organized and maximize space.

Additionally, the process of wiring a shed house with traditional electric power can be complex and time-consuming. It may require hiring a professional electrician, which can incur additional expenses. The first step in managing sewage and waste water in a shed house is to install a proper disposal system.

The Tiny house Blog

Turning a shed into a tiny house expands living or creative spaces, opens up short-term rental income opportunities, or provides a place for family members to stay. Learn how to turn a shed into a tiny house, as well as its feasibility given your budget and local ordinances. In this article, we explain the sizes, costs, styles, and steps to customizing your tiny house shell. Before you embark on building an attached shed, check on the zoning and tax laws in your area. You may find that your county specifies how and where an attached shed may be built.

The Studio Style Modern Home

Additionally, government incentives and rebates are often available to help offset the initial installation cost. First and foremost, traditional electric power can be expensive, especially if you are using a large amount of electricity on a regular basis. Additionally, it can be challenging to install the necessary wiring for your shed house, especially if you are not experienced in electrical work. Hiring a professional electrician is often required to ensure the job is done safely and correctly.

How Much Does a She Shed Cost: Price Breakdown

Before we delve into the different heating options available for shed houses, it is important to understand the unique challenges that come with heating these structures. Shed houses are typically made of lightweight materials such as wood or metal, which are not known for their insulating properties. This lack of insulation can result in rapid heat loss, making it difficult to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. Assess the sun exposure for solar power installations and the availability and reliability of the grid for traditional electric power. It is essential to choose a power source that suits your shed house's specific location and requirements. Once you have determined the number of solar panels needed, the installation process can begin.

Where to buy a tiny home

Solar power has more uses than ever—heating water, powering fans, or heating the tiny home. Situate the tiny house so that roof-mounted solar panels gain the most light throughout the day. The best solar panels for tiny houses will be sized to fit the limited roof area of tiny houses.

shed to house

Converting a storage shed into a tiny house has numerous benefits that make it an attractive option for homeowners. Most of the plans we’ve listed are free of charge or cost very little. The Saltbox Shed or Tool Shed is likely the easiest and cheapest to build in terms of materials needed to build the sheds in question. All in all, it’s very spacious and offers the opportunity to have a full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room if you’re creative enough.

While the initial installation cost may be higher than traditional electric power, solar power systems have a longer lifespan and require minimal maintenance. Additionally, solar power can provide energy independence, allowing you to generate your electricity and potentially sell excess power back to the grid. Wiring a shed house with traditional electric power requires careful planning and execution. Before starting the wiring process, it is essential to create a detailed electrical plan, outlining the locations of outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures.

Additionally, fiberglass is non-combustible, which makes it a safe option for homes. However, it is important to note that fiberglass insulation can cause skin irritation and respiratory issues if not installed properly. It also tends to lose its effectiveness over time, as the fibers settle and compact. One of the best ways to achieve any of the above is by converting a backyard storage shed into a livable house. Not only is this an affordable and environmentally friendly option, but it also allows homeowners to maximize the use of their outdoor space.

The climate in your region will also affect the type of materials needed for renovation. In areas with extreme weather conditions, additional heating and cooling materials will add to the cost. Material costs vary depending on the current condition of your shed and the type of conversion you choose to tackle. Before buying equipment, make sure you have room for the exercises you love most.

Additionally, if you have a large family, you may need to prioritize storage space in your design. Lastly, don't forget about the importance of proper ventilation in your shower area. Install a ventilation fan or a window to prevent mold and mildew growth. This will ensure that your shed house bathroom remains fresh and clean. The shower is an essential part of any bathroom, and designing a functional and stylish shower in a shed house bathroom requires careful consideration. Choosing the right toilet for your shed house bathroom is an important decision that can impact both the functionality and style of the space.

The popularity of open floor plans reflect the way home shoppers want to live, however not every builder offers this type of floor plan. Three bedroom house plans are the most common size in many countries. In fact, according to the US Census Bureau, 3 bedroom homes make up almost half of all new builds. One thing to consider is that most three-bedroom house plans have two bathrooms – one for the master suite and another for the other bedrooms. Some homes include a Jack and Jill bathroom for the two smaller rooms.

You don’t need to compete with people on the market trying to buy a house when you can quickly build one precisely to your liking. With thousands of options to choose from, the flexibility and options are endless. Review our house plans and see how we can help you build your dreams today. Probably the most important decision is the location of the master suite and the other bedrooms. Designating these spaces will give you a clear idea of where you can put the living room, kitchen, bathrooms, and garage.

When viewing art in key line mode you can see the points or vectors when connecting your lines and curves. They can also be seen when using the pen tool or editing the points along a path. Therefore, if we take the 1,876 sq ft from the average three-bedroom home sold, you can expect to pay about $187,600 on the low end. Singles may appreciate a 3 bedroom home because they can rent the two extra bedrooms to roommates to help with the monthly mortgage payments. However, these numbers will vary based on location, architectural styles, and the materials you use. Our Instant Cost-to-Build feature allows you to receive an estimate based upon the zip code of where you want to build plus your projected quality level. Over time, this can increase the home’s market value because there will always be families looking for extra space. So, if and when the time comes for you to sell, you’ll likely sell your house quickly and make a profit due to demand.

What's Included in these plans?

Bess of Hardwick's park was wholly on the east side of the river and only extended as far south as the Emperor Fountain and as far north as the cricket ground. The house and garden were first constructed by Sir William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick in 1555. There were terraces to the east of the house where the main lawn is now, ponds and fountains to the south, and fishponds to the west by the river. The main visual remnant of the time is a squat stone tower known as Queen Mary's Bower on account of a legend that Mary, Queen of Scots was allowed to take the air there while a prisoner at Chatsworth. Some of the retaining walls of the West Garden also date from this era, but they were reconstructed and extended later.

Private rooms

Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown is single-handedly responsible for changing the landscape of 18th century England, creating magical gardens and vistas that we still enjoy today. Over the years, Chatsworth would play host to a variety of notable guests including writers, artists, entertainers, nobility as well as royalty itself, including none other than Queen Victoria. In later years, under the 8th Duke, King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra would become regular visitors at many of the lavish parties taking place at Chatsworth. The Rock Garden was thought to have been inspired by the 6th Duke’s Alpine visit during his Grand Tour of Europe, which led to the ambitious construction.

History

In the mid-1950s, the 11th Duke and Duchess began to think about moving in. The pre-war house had relied wholly on a large staff for its comforts, and lacked modern facilities. The building was rewired, the plumbing and heating were overhauled, and six self-contained staff flats created to replace the small staff bedrooms and communal servants' hall. Including those in the staff flats, 17 bathrooms were added to the existing handful. The 6th Duke's cavernous kitchen was abandoned and a new one was created closer to the family dining room.

Accessibility

She lodged in the apartment now known as the Queen of Scots rooms, on the top floor above the great hall, which faces onto the inner courtyard. An accomplished needlewoman, Bess joined Mary at Chatsworth for extended periods in 1569, 1570, and 1571, during which time they worked together on the Oxburgh Hangings.[8] Bess died in 1608 and Chatsworth was passed to her eldest son, Henry. The estate was purchased from Henry by his brother William Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire, for £10,000. Despite the debt, Andrew Cavendish, 11th Duke of Devonshire, decided he wanted to keep the family house.

There are over 30 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall to the regal state rooms and atmospheric Sculpture Gallery, while private art haul the Devonshire Collection is one of the finest in Europe and worth a visit in its own right. Chatsworth is a registered charity dedicated to preserving the house, its collections, garden, woodlands and parkland for everyone to experience and enjoy. The last horses left the stables in 1939, when the building became a store and garage. The grooms' accommodation was turned into flats for Chatsworth employees and pensioners.

Meanwhile James Paine designed a new bridge to the north of the house, set at an angle of 40 degrees to command the best view of the West Front of the house. Most of the houses in Edensor were demolished and the village was rebuilt out of sight of the house. The hedges between the fields on the west bank of the river were grubbed up to create open parkland and woods were planted on the horizon. These were arranged in triangular clumps, so that a screen of trees could be maintained when each planting had to be felled. Brown's plantings reached their peak in the mid-20th century and are gradually being replaced. The 5th Duke had an elegant red-brick inn built at Edensor to cater to a growing number of well-to-do travellers coming to see Chatsworth.

Historic Sites Associated with Mary Queen of Scots

After a failed attempt to gain planning permission for a new building incorporating the old ice house in the park, a 250-seat restaurant was created in the carriage house. The 19th-century coach used by the Dowager Duchess and the late Duke at the Queen's Coronation is on display there. Other facilities include The Cavendish Rooms, which also serves refreshments, a shop, and three rooms for hire. The stables cater for 30,000 people a month in the visitor season.

He converted the kitchen in the centre of the north front into an entrance hall, from which guests walked through an open colonnade in the courtyard, through a passage past the cook's bedroom and the back stairs, and into the Painted Hall. He then built a neoclassical service wing for his kitchens that was a forerunner of the 6th Duke's north wing. William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, had some of the family's private rooms redecorated and some partition walls moved, but there are few traces of the mid and late 18th century in the public rooms.

In addition, the 1st Earl of Devonshire played host to the famous English philosopher Thomas Hobbes whom he employed to educate his son, William. In time, Hobbes would become an integral member of the family, travelling with the younger William Cavendish across Europe. He would spend the last few years of his life on the family estate and passed away in December 1679 at Hardwick Hall. After his passing, many of Hobbes manuscripts found a home at Chatsworth House.

Today Chatsworth House is open to the public and is operated by the Chatsworth House Trust. The house boasts a wealth of interesting art, furniture and antiques as well as exceptional architecture throughout a number of its stunning rooms. A must-see at Chatsworth House is the amazing Devonshire Collection, which displays an array of interesting items from the family’s personal collections. An education visit to Chatsworth makes for a rewarding day for students and teachers alike – whatever their stage of learning.

Enjoy a 'pawsome' day out - we’ve tried to make visiting Chatsworth with your dog as simple and fun as possible. Enjoy a 45-minute tour of the garden by buggy and with a knowledgeable guide. We have a range of restaurants and cafes offering a selection of dining options, from freshly made sandwiches to set menu lunches. Our multi-media guide can be hired in the house for a small charge offering additional information to enhance your visit. In May 1944 Kathleen Kennedy, sister of John F. Kennedy, married William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington, elder son of the 10th Duke of Devonshire.

Sadly in 1608 Bess passed away and possession of Chatsworth passed on to her eldest son Henry; however the estate was purchased by his brother for the price of £10,000. Now in the hands of William Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire, his business portfolio expanded as did his investment in the property and he acquired more land during his time managing the estate. Our year-round programme of events and experiences are designed to educate and inspire. If you haven't already, you may be able to add a guided tour of the house or garden to your visit.

The only surviving baroque façade is that on the eastern side, where five bays of the original seven remain, and are largely as built. There are carved trophies by Samuel Watson, a Derbyshire craftsman who did much work at Chatsworth in stone, marble and wood. I have fond memories of playing in the water and enjoying a picnic. Initially built in 1669 and rebuilt in 1701, the grand baroque Temple or Cascade House was added in 1703. In 2004 the Cascade was voted the best water feature in England by  Country Life.

A highlight of any visit is the Painted Hall, occupying Bess’s original Elizabethan Great Hall. Fed up with Catholic rule, the earl was one of a handful of nobles who invited the Protestant William of Orange to invade England in 1688. After the revolution’s success, he engaged the Versailles court painter Louis Laguerre to flatter the new monarch with a set of murals depicting scenes from the life of Julius Caesar.

Although the 10th Duke had transferred his assets to his son during his lifetime in the hope of avoiding death duties, the Duke died a few weeks too early for the lifetime exemption to apply and tax was charged at 80 per cent on the estate. Some of the family's advisors considered the situation irretrievable and there was a proposal to transfer Chatsworth to the nation as a Victoria and Albert Museum of Northern England. Instead, the Duke decided to retain his family's home if he could. He sold tens of thousands of acres of land, transferred Hardwick Hall to the National Trust in lieu of tax, and sold some major works of art from Chatsworth.

25 Turquoise & Teal Nails For A Fresh Look

teal nails with design

If you’re tired of sporting a classic French tip, try this “melting” design next time you’re at the salon. These beach-inspired nails are a great idea for a summer manicure. Add pretty wave-like details and wear them on the shore all summer long.

Earlier in the post we featured a trendy leopard print idea. One nail on each hand has the wild leopard pattern, two are teal and one nail is glittery. We love the colors and glitzy art, this mani is perfect for a party. A mix of blue and teal shades have then been added onto the nail in a paint stroke style.

Colorful Blooms

However, finding the perfect dark teal shade goes beyond simply matching it with your skin tone. It’s essential to consider other factors such as occasion and personal style. A deeper teal with hints of black can create an edgier look suitable for evening outings or bold fashion statements. On the other hand, opting for a brighter shade of teal with light green undertones can give off a fresh and playful vibe perfect for summer days or beach vacations. What is the perfect fruit to quench your thirst in the summer heat?

Teal and Pink Mix

It can be used as a contrasting hue, or blended in with your teal base giving it various degrees of opacity. Like your nails are made from natural minerals, so is everything you wear next to them! Black nail polish goes well too especially if you’re trying an edgy look. If you want an easy to maintain look this summer, try nude coffin nails with teal tips. This simple design works best on short square nails because the effect of these two colors together can be overwhelming if you have longer nails or smaller hands. Both shades are considered stunning blue-green hues, but the distinction between teal nails and turquoise nails lies in their subtle variations in lightness.

Teal Rhinestone Nail Art

A retro square shape and bright orange polish for a fun summer twist on gel nails. You can also try ombre or matte nail designs, but this teal color is particularly striking! The classic shape has been in fashion for decades and never fails to stand out from the crowd.

Simple Teal Nail Color Ideas

For this design, we recommend using gold foil stickers or nail art designs to get extra texture and detail on your squoval nails. Dark teal is an excellent choice for giving your nails a glossy, shiny look. Add a golden accent nail with a glittery teal finish to your stiletto nails for an elegant and eye-catching look. Use the same color on all of your fingertips, or mix it up by using different colors on each hand! The gold is subtle enough that you can wear this design at work without being too flashy, but still add a little something extra to your outfit. Matte dark teal nails are a great way to introduce color into your look without being too adventurous.

The heart shape is such a classic pattern that it never goes out of fashion. It is just perfect for springtime, and if you want to make it even cuter, you can opt for a large heart instead of a small one. A pink metallic print over a light pink base color adds another dimension to an otherwise monotone pedicure. We love the modern touch of the white and black design, too.

The great thing about indie nails is that you can make the design out of anything you want. Nail artist Gina Edwards told Allure that she came up with a mid-century modern look sort of by accident. She was using different hues of purple and a pure white nail polish and started to improvise. "There was no guide for this look," she said about the look, which ended up featuring different color blocked sections on the nail.

Dark Teal Nail Designs you’ll fall in love with

This nail style looks good on all types of nails, since it creates length without looking too chunky. For an on-trend look, combine light teal with turquoise in a square marble design. The lively color combination pops and adds some fun to your ensemble without being too bold for work or formal events. Square nails are perfect for short fingers as they lengthen the hands and add substance. Prepare to dive into a sea of elegance with this teal nail design!

These glittery nails have a wonderful combination of different textures and patterns. Negative space designs are very popular these days, they give a sense of freedom to the design without being too busy or overwhelming. This particular design has a lot of negative space which gives it a nice balance with some gold accents. As a dark pedicure is to winter, white is the color of summer pedicures. Separate yourself from the pack with an accent nail, like this watercolor-esque leaf branch.

Picture a 50s-inspired look, with teal as the standout color against a backdrop of monochrome polka dots. The allure of teal, a color that combines the tranquil depth of the sea with the invigorating freshness of a tropical lagoon, is undeniable. Each design is an ode to creativity, a testament to your love for the unusual, the innovative.

Hardscaping 101: Design Guide for Patio Pavers

patio paver design ideas

The wood furniture reflects the brown in the stone, and bright pink, yellow, and turquoise, introduced with pillows and woven chairs, add life to an otherwise neutral space. "Incorporating seasonal plants in container groupings brings a softness and adds color to a patio space," says Cate. To squeeze every inch out of your patio, you may want to consider adding pavers down the side of your house or apartment, if there's room.

Creating Harmony With Round Paver Patios

The grass in this outdoor area stands out beautifully against the hex pavers. The use of different shapes in patio pavers allows for endless creative possibilities in landscaping. These Techo-Bloc Squadra pavers (straight-edge mini-cubes) were laid out in a gradation around the pool to create a subtle ombre effect. The chestnut brown and merlot colors in the pavers add warmth and richness to the outdoor space, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for relaxation and entertainment.

Create a solo space

Visualize a multi-level garden where each tier is held beautifully by these walls, turning what was once just a slope into a series of interactive spaces. Made from materials ranging from stone to wood to concrete, retaining walls can be styled to complement any outdoor theme. For those who dream of an outdoor space that feels like a serene escape rather than a structured area, a freeform paver patio is the poetic answer.

Incorporate Flagstone Pavers

A covered patio often allows for a greater variety of lighting options. Opting for lighting that doesn’t require wiring makes it renter-friendly, and it’s not something that should be overlooked outdoors. Use the patio cover as an opportunity to try something dramatic like a chandelier or a series of pendant lamps that can act as a focal point.

Keep the pattern on your modern paver patio clean and geometric for a fresh look. Add rattan and woven furnishings and accessories to bring visual interest to your seating area. Natural materials like brick, stone, and wood mix well together, as with this wood deck wrapped with a landing made of stone pavers.

There’s something inherently calming about the sound of flowing water. Incorporating a water feature into your outdoor space isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a soothing oasis for the senses. Think of warm summer evenings, the glow of the sunset reflecting off the unique patterns and swirls of the stones, as you lounge or dine in your outdoor haven. Flagstones can be laid close together for a more structured appearance or with gaps that can be filled with ground cover or moss, adding a touch of greenery between each stone. Invoking a sense of harmony and unity, the round paver patio is a celebration of cyclical beauty.

Mix slabs and gravel

Plus, with the resilience and durability of concrete, these pavers promise both longevity and timeless style. Picture a cozy fire pit encircled by paver benches, where friends gather for warmth and conversation. By utilizing the same materials as the patio or introducing complementary textures, built-in seating can be both a design highlight and a seamless integration. In the realm of innovative landscaping, built-in paver seating stands out as a fusion of form and function. These seating solutions, crafted directly into the patio design, offer a permanent and stylish alternative to traditional patio furniture.

The filler sand is the additional sand put once the paving stones are placed on top of the bedding sand. The filler sand , as its name suggests, fills the spaces in between the pavers to create an even surface. Aside from paving stones, concrete is another material option that can be used for patios. Known to be one of the most durable construction materials, concrete possesses a number of strong qualities that make it a good alternative to pavers. This beautiful swimming pool design uses pavestones as a walkway around the perimeter leading to the hot tub. The backyard itself has gravel landscaping with a covered patio with stacked stone supports.

The distressed texture and warm color of this patio with a built in fire pit contrasts beautifully with the surrounding grass lawn and white privacy fence. Rough stone steps can can be carefully positioned to create a natural looking walkway. Although highly aesthetic, the stack bond pattern has a relatively low structural value, making it unsuitable for areas that often carry heavy loads, like driveways.

Pavers can be easily (and cheaply) replaced without specialized equipment or skills, but concrete repairs are more involved (expensive). If this wasn’t enough to convince you to opt for pavers, they are more durable, last longer, and are easy to switch around for a design refresh. For paver patios constructed with regular sand and sealer, you’ll need to reapply the sealer once every two years. Any build up from excess water, whether it may be from natural elements like the rain or from an artificial source, may potentially cause damage to your paver patio if not addressed.

From classic brick to modern stone, pavers add polish to any outdoor space. Both stone and concrete pavers are often spaced apart, with loose materials like pea gravel or sand or ground covers like thyme or Irish moss to fill the gaps. An attractive, cost-saving option is to use concrete pavers, which can be cast into a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. Different textures and finishes can be applied to concrete, like rock salt, aggregate, faux finishes, etchings, stamping, and hand carving.

Chatsworth House One of England's Finest Estates

When the house reopened after the war, "catering" was limited to an outdoor tap, which has since been relabelled "water for dogs". It seated 90 in some old horse stalls in the stables and was unsatisfactory to customers and from a commercial point of view. In 1987 the Duke and Duchess's private chef, a Frenchman named Jean-Pierre Béraud who was also a leading light in the success of the Chatsworth Farm Shop and Chatsworth Foods, took charge.

William and Mary were also the inspiration for the stunning collection of delftware vases – the fashion for which was started by their Majesties’ Dutch origins. The vases are housed in the Great Chamber, which was intended as a gathering place for those seeking an audience with the king and queen. The magnificent painted ceiling by Verrio contains a portrait of the 1st Duke’s Housekeeper Mrs Hackett. They apparently fell out and Verrio immortalised her in the classical scene as the vengeful Fate, Atropos. Approached through 400 hectares of parkland, Chatsworth House is a vision of serenity at the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park.

Chatsworth was explored and colonized by the Spanish beginning in the 18th century. The land was part of a Spanish land grant, Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, in the 19th century, and after the United States took over the land following the Mexican–American War, it was the largest such grant in California. In 1959 Andrew Cavendish, his wife, Deborah Mitford, and their children moved back into Chatsworth House. In 1981, Chatsworth Settlement Trustee created a new Chatsworth House Trust to preserve the house and open it to the public. This new trust manages the home but allows the Duke and his family to continue living at Chatsworth House. Sir William Cavendish, the Treasurer of the King’s Chamber, commissioned the building in 1553 for his wife, Bess of Hardwick.

History

A common parlour on the ground floor was used by the gentlemen of the household, and later for informal family meals. Above it was the main family dining room, and at the top the Great Chamber, which was reserved for royalty, although the 6th Duke wrote that to his knowledge, it had never been used. Chatsworth House is built on sloping ground, lower on the north and west sides than on the south and east sides. The original Tudor mansion was built in the 1560s by Bess of Hardwick in a quadrangle layout, about 170 feet (50 m) from north to south and 190 feet (60 m) from east to west, with a large central courtyard. The main entrance was on the west front, which was embellished with four towers or turrets, and the great hall in the medieval tradition was on the east side of the courtyard, where the Painted Hall remains the focus of the house to this day. William Cavendish, 2nd Duke of Devonshire, and William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire, made no changes to the house or gardens, but both contributed much to the collection found at Chatsworth at the time.

For me, the gardens of Chatsworth House are where the natural beauty lies. The gardens are breathtaking – especially if you experience them during the summer. Sometimes referred to as “the jewel in the Peak District’s crown,” let’s explore. I’m from the north, so naturally, I recommend you visit the north. In other words, you can’t possibly appreciate all England offers unless you venture north. This is understandable as London is the capital and is home to many attractions that most people want to visit.

Average rainfall is some 33.7 inches (855 mm) a year, with an annual average of 1,160 hours of sunshine. Most of the main features of the garden were created in five main phases of development. The main family living rooms are on the first floor of the south front. The family dining room is in the south-east corner and has the same dimensions as the State Dining Room directly above. This has been the usual location of the family dining room; the Bachelor Duke's dining room in the north wing took over that role for an interlude of little over a hundred years. Both Bess of Hardwick's house and the 1st Duke's house had a hierarchy of three dining rooms in this corner, each taller and more lavishly decorated than the one below.

Chatsworth is located in central England, in the heart of the Peak District in Derbyshire. Chatsworth is the home of the Iverson Movie Ranch, a 500-acre area which was the most filmed movie ranch in history, as more than 2,000 productions used it as a filming location. There’s nothing better (in my opinion) than visiting mansions and estates at Christmas.

Visitors bypass the first floor on their way down the West Stairs from the state rooms to the chapel. The entire ground floor of the North Wing was occupied by service rooms, including a kitchen, servants' hall, laundry, butler and housekeeper's rooms. On the first floor, facing west, were two sets of bachelor bedrooms called "California" and "The Birds". The main rooms in the new wing face east and were accessed from the main house through a small library called the Dome Room. The first room beyond is a dining room, with a music gallery in the serving lobby where the musicians played.

Farmyard & Playground

Three corridors called the Tapestry Gallery, Burlington Corridor and Book Passage are wrapped round the south, west and north passages at this level and give access to family bedrooms. There is a sitting room in the north-west corner — one of the few rooms in the house with outside views in two directions. There are more family bedrooms on the second floor facing west and north. The Scots and Leicester bedrooms in the east wing are still used when there is a large house party, which is why they are sometimes available as a separately charged optional extra in the tour of the house and sometimes not.

Capability Brown did at least as much work in the park as he did in the garden. Brown straightened the river and put a network of drainage channels under the grass. The park is fertilised with manure from the estates farms; weeds and scrub are kept under control. Brown filled in most of the fishponds and extended the park to the west of the river.

By the end of the 17th century, fashions were changing and Bess’s great-great-grandson, the 4th Earl of Devonshire (1640–1707), decided to rebuild the house in the new Baroque style, inspired by a visit to the Palace of Versailles. Originally intending only to alter the South Front, he developed such a thirst for building that each facade was reworked in turn, creating the perfectly balanced symphony of stone – sensitively updated by later generations – we see today. This house is not part of the Free for Members scheme, but is one of many houses on our website that we support to promote their tours, weddings, filming and other commercial offerings.

The great stately home belonging to generations of the Devonshire family sits proudly in all its architectural majesty and grandeur, surrounded by the beautiful rugged landscape of the Derbyshire Dales. We ask that visitors with mobility aids add a note when booking in order to make your visit as seamless as possible.
